Getting Around

Alexandria, Egypt offers several transportation options, including public transit, taxis, Uber, and car rentals. The city’s affordable public transport includes trams, buses, and minibuses. Its historic tram system, dating back to 1863, runs 20 lines and offers a nostalgic ride for just E£0.50. Buses and 14-seater microbuses (or “micros”) are cheap and widely used, though micros have no set schedule and depart when full.

Taxis are a fast option for short trips, but since most don’t use meters, it’s best to agree on the fare upfront. Some drivers may offer guided tours. Uber is available, though service quality may vary compared to Cairo. Car rentals from companies like Budget and Hertz are also an option, with rates around E£120 per day, though driving in local traffic can be intense.
