Rhodes
Rhodes was a major maritime power in Classical history and home to the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was a cultural center known for its art, sculpture, and oratory school, attracting figures like Cato and Julius Caesar. As a Roman province, Rhodes played a role in key wars, including the First Mithridatic War. Its Medieval Old Town, blending Gothic and Ottoman architecture, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In modern times, Rhodes is a popular tourist destination, thriving from tourism and agriculture. The Apostle Paul’s visit to the island was significant in spreading the Gospel throughout the Roman Empire.
