Leonidas Monument

The Memorial of Leonidas and the 300 Spartans in Lamia, Greece, honors the Greek soldiers who fought in the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. Located near the Thermopylae archaeological site, it commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of the Spartans who held off the Persian army for three days, allowing Athens to defend itself. The monument features a statue of King Leonidas, a granite replica of a Spartan helmet, and an epigram by Simonides, immortalizing their heroism. It serves as a lasting reminder of Greek courage and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds.
